Description: Trees for Tourism Noosa is an environmental sustainability initiative by Tourism Noosa in partnership with Noosa District and Landcare whereby tree plantings take place across the Noosa Shire, in particular on the Noosa Trail Network, revegetating several areas of the trail to provide shade trees for walkers, assist with erosion mitigation, improve the habitat for local koalas and other wildlife and help with sequestering carbon dioxide. Since 2019, donations from the community, local business and contributions from major event ticket sales have been raised totalling over $45,000, allowing over 5,700 native trees to be planted in Trees for Tourism forests across the Noosa Shire which sequesters over 715 tonnes of CO2 (over the lifetime of the trees). Trees for Tourism is one of the many Sustainable Programs developed by Tourism Noosa. Tourism Noosa's Sustainable Programs were awarded the Mumbrella Award for Sustainable Practices 2022.

Website about this solution: https://www.visitnoosa.com.au/plan/trees-for-tourism#:~:text=To%20date%2C%20Trees%20for%20Tourism's,61%20Hastings%20Street%2C%20Noosa%20Heads.

Why I love this solution: Noosa is a regional tourist town, and subsequently generates dollars and employment for the local community. Whilst not an offical carbon offset program, Trees for Tourism enables Noosa to accommodate tourists and visitors whilst maintaining and nurturing the beauty of our natural environment; for our tourists and also our locals.
