Description: After speaking with a sales rep at Home Depot and a quick assessment of our roof, we decided to lease Tesla solar panels. There was a special program that funded the upfront costs in combination with any and all rebates from our local municipalities. We pay TESLA about $30 a month and save $150 a month, on average to keep our home comfortable during the hot weather. Most of our savings occur during the spring, summer, fall as the solar panels don't generate much energy in the winter months.

Why I love this solution: Some people opt to "hide" their solar panels from the front of their house. Not only was the front facing part of our roof the best spot, but I'm also happy to showcase my small effort to reduce energy consumption.

  • Hi Nikole Y! It gets pretty hot here in the summer, so having solar definitely helps offset the energy needed to keep our house (and my young children) at a reasonable temperature. Our energy bills are much lower in the summer because of the solar. The solar doesn't really have an impact in winter.
