Description: All houses of the Vauban project are built to ultra low-energy Passivhaus consumption standards. Some buildings are heated by a combined heat and power station burning wood chips, while many of the buildings have solar collectors or photovoltaic cells. It may be the first housing community worldwide in which all the homes combined produce a positive energy balance (they sell the excess back to the city grid).

Why I love this solution: Vaubaun is a beautiful settlement - attractive and ecologically advanced. This is the minimum standard for any building that is being built today. It is silly that this is still the exception
