Buying a pastureland and building a forest

Description: In 2006 we wished to start a small eco-hotel but did not want to be falsely ecological. So we decided to re-create nature where it was destroyed and created a forest of 8 hectares. We planted more than 150 different species of trees and more plants and palms too. More than 4000 plantings and for every 10 species added to the biodiversity we also got more birds. In year 1 we only had 20 birdspecies, now we have over a 100 per year. The hotel (or bed and breakfast) uses captured rainwater stored in tanks for all its water use. We are both biologist and educate our guests on nature and conservation. Our building was designed to save energy and all our lights are led. We do no longer serve beef ever to our guests. Ocasionally chicken or pork. We assisted a set up of recycling in the area and reduce and reuse. We are reachable by bus.

Why I love this solution: We felt we could contribute directly and help with the greening of Panama's lost low land forest.
